答 ｜ 大漆是从漆树上割取的天然树脂，化学漆是工业合成的涂层，两者根本不是一种东西。分辨有两招：一看光泽，大漆温润含蓄、看久了眼睛舒服，化学漆的光偏耀眼浮亮；二闻气味，新大漆器有淡淡酸香味且随时间越来越轻，化学漆制品始终带着塑料或轮胎般的刺鼻味。

问 ｜ 怎么判断一件漆器是不是机器做的？

答 ｜ 从掂、敲、看三处入手。掂——木胎手工器压手有分量，机器一次成型的仿品偏轻飘；敲——手工器结构致密，敲任何位置声音都均匀清脆；看——手工彩绘有凹凸跟手感、细节处见笔意，机器喷涂的漆层薄而浮，图案呆板无手温。

What is the difference between raw lacquer and synthetic lacquer?

Two tests tell them apart: look—raw lacquer glows softly and rests the eye, while synthetic lacquer shines hard and flat; smell—a new raw-lacquer piece carries a faint sour-sweetness that fades with time, whereas synthetic pieces keep a plastic- or rubber-like sharpness.

How can you tell whether a lacquer piece is machine-made?

Weigh, tap and look. Weigh—a hand-built wooden body sits heavy in the hand, while mold-formed imitations feel light; tap—a handcrafted piece is dense, sounding even and crisp wherever you knock; look—hand painting has faint relief and a brush's intent in the details, while sprayed coatings lie thin and flat, their patterns stiff and cold.
